At Alta High, Homecoming Week is a big week for clubs, teams and performers. There are events all week long, such as the Homecoming Assembly, Pep Rally, Football game and the dance.
The festivities kick off with an assembly in the gym on Monday September 11th, during school from around 9:00-10:00 A.M.The assembly always has fun games or activities to watch. So many teams and clubs perform during the assembly. The teams and clubs that participate change each year.
The festivities continue all week long including dress up days at school, and after school activites. Students are encouraged to stay up to date with dress up themes and activities through the Alta.Hawks instagram account.
The festivities really to start to kick off on Thursday at the pep rally and parade at the football stadium starting at 6:30. The pep rally and parade is a fun event to see all the clubs and teams Alta has. Each club or team walks the track of the football field with a banner showing what group they are. Following the parade there are games to watch. Once the games are over, the “A” is lit on fire. This means that a figure shaped as an “A” is burned and everyone watches. Both parents and students are invited.
The football game is always one of the best out of all school activities of the year, kicking off at 7:00 on Friday night. Drill, Cheer, Ballroom and Dance Company start preparing for the homecoming football game halftime before the school year even starts. Those four teams practice together for weeks leading up to the homecoming game for something they call The Homecoming Spectacular. The teams all perform and then do one big performance all together. The football team gets ready for one of their most important games of the year for them.
The Homecoming Dance at Alta is on Saturday night from 8:00pm-10:00pm in the commons to end that week off. It is a fun night of dancing and music. For this dance girls typically prefer shorter length or maxi dresses and the boys wear a suit and tie. You can go on a date or just by yourself. Students love homecoming week and love when everyone gets involved, “I love the dress up days and homecoming activities.” says Alta student Biz Vietti, “It adds to the experience when everyone participates.”
