“Utah has one of the biggest writing communities of the United States!” Mrs. Scott, one of our Alta High School librarians, has been able to provide an amazing opportunity for all the young writers at Alta; the Teen Author Boot Camp Writing Conference, which will be held on March 23, 2024 ( the same day as Alta’s Prom) at the Utah Valley Convention Center.
Mrs. Scott has organized a scholarship opportunity to cover the cost of this conference for ten Alta students who submit an application by January 19 at 3:00 pm, with a resume, a writing sample that has been worked on outside of school, and a short cover-letter style paragraph explaining why you are interested in this event. The Alta High community has an incredible amount of writers that have already published works or are currently working to publish works. “Writing isn’t just about the final product,” Mrs. Scott states. “Writing is about the journey and process.” Mrs. Scott says that even if some students at Alta might not identify as writers, writing will help them find their own identity, especially at a young age.
The Teen Author Boot Camp Writing Conference is an incredible opportunity with numerous fun activities and learning experiences. Two beloved authors will be attending this conference as guest speakers; Christopher Paolini, author of Eragon, an international bestseller, and Darcie Little Badger, author of critically acclaimed novel Elatsoe.
It is recommended that anyone with at least a bit of writing experience or with the curiosity to learn new things and gain new experiences applies to this amazing opportunity! Who knows? Maybe a young Alta writer will become your favorite author in the future.
