The Alta Mountain Bike team is back in season. Last year Alta placed 16th in the Utah State Championship, racking up a total of 3,735 points. This year, they have new members of the squad and are fighting for the number one title.
Last year Jacob Taylor led the way, placing 32nd in State for Varsity boys as a junior, followed by Ryker Brand. Alta has gotten a lot faster on the slopes this year.
“In my last race, I came in 13th place,” says Jason Robbins, rising star on the team. “Last year we were slow, but this year we are faster.”
The mountain bike team is a competitive community, but it also brings other great things to the table. The teammates treat each other as family and are a tight knit community. All who participate gets to race with their friends and make new ones along the way.
Mountain biking also brings great exercise and fitness achievements with it.
“Biking has made me stronger,” says Robbins, when asked about the benefits of mountain biking.
Joining the team provides opportunities to travel to different parts of Utah.
“I liked racing in Snow Basin,” says Jason Law. “It’s all downhill after the big uphill, so its super easy.”
The team also gets to race in Manti this year.
“I really liked racing in Price,” Jason Robbins adds on.
Alta has shown vast improvement in their last few races and are ready for any obstacles standing in the way. If you have an interest in joining Alta’s Mountain Bike team, look for registration for 2025 and any interest meetings.
