As the season gets underway and the lineups are locked in, Alta basketball is looking really good. Varsity is now on a 5 game win streak and is looking unstoppable inside and outside the paint. With their lone loss coming from a 68-48 final at home vs Lone Peak(5-3). After that loss though, Alta has looked unbeatable, scoring a combined 341 points since that loss, and outscoring their opponents by 90 points in those 5 games. With the Varsity playing so well, how will the freshman live up to the hype?
“Yeah, we’re doing good, we’re on a four game win streak, and have only lost two games,” said Justyce Spencer of the freshman team. Of course, they don’t want to assume that this is the energy they will continue to play with, but if it is, the Alta basketball program has a lot to look forward to. Plus, there is always room for improvement.
“Yea, we have a bunch of room to improve, with play-making and defense, putting the right foot forward,” said Spencer. With many teams, players don’t want to admit that there is room for improvement, or that they aren’t performing to the best of their ability, but with the freshman team, they are constantly saying they can improve, and that is a sign of strength. With the way they are performing, playing so well and showing tons of skill, it shows that they won’t settle. They have the talent, and they have the attitude. If they put forth the effort, things will only go up.
With Alta basketball playing so well on all levels, things can only continue to rise. With Varsity winning by huge margins, we can expect another deep run in the playoffs, and we can expect Alta basketball to be a name to be scared of when opponents see us on their schedule for a long while.
