With 2 games left in the season, and Alta basketball playing well, players are shooting for a good region seed in the playoffs. Alta is coming out of the loss to Highland and they are hoping to turn things around tonight against 18-2 Olympus. They will also be looking for a measure of redemption, after losing to the Titans in the state title last year. Alta’s regular season will come to a close next Tuesday, at home vs Brighton.
“I’d say trusting each other one-hundred percent, there’s times when we don’t trust each other as much and that’s when things don’t go very well,” said Matt Mckea, a senior on Varsity, “but I think when we are all locked in and have one-hundred percent trust in each other and what we can do I think we are a very good team.”
With the playoffs right around the corner, trust is key for any team that makes it to the playoffs. Alta’s 15 wins clearly show that they have the capability to trust, but they need to continue. In their 6 losses, it’s pretty clear that there was a lack of trust between some guys, but that will hopefully change in the games to come.
“I feel like we’ve been really good, I mean, we have a lot of wins, we went on a little bit of a losing streak in region,” said Nash Lundberg, a freshman on Varsity, ”but we snapped out of it and have been playing really good as a team.” If the Hawks can keep this momentum going, and forget about their last loss, they have a really good chance to win out and play well in the playoffs.
As teams are starting to prepare for the playoffs, they all have their eyes on the same target, the State Championship. If the Hawks perform like they did in the three games before their loss, and really every win so far this season, they have the potential, skill, and determination to win it all. They just need to play like they have all season and trust in one another. If they do that? The Hawks have a winning recipe.
