As the first games of the new playoff bracket wrap up, the Hawks get the privilege to sit back and enjoy the view from the film room. Alta’s boy’s basketball finished with a record of 17-6 (7-5 in region) and with their surge of power in the last two games, they bought themselves the 6th seed in the playoff bracket which is enough to get them the first round bye. With the first round bye, the Hawks found themselves waiting for the Viewmont vs Bonneville game to finish. In the end, Viewmont emerged victorious and will play the Hawks.
“I think we are getting some chemistry at the right time,” said Cole Lemon, senior for Alta. “Our practices have been really good, we are playing together really well. We’re hitting shots and I believe in each and every one of us as individuals that we are all going to go out there and make the right plays to win us a game.”
Alta basketball has definitely been on a hot streak as of late, defeating one of the best teams in the bracket already, that being #2 Olympus, and closing the season out with a commanding win against #8 Brighton (also in the bracket). If they keep this momentum up, there is a real shot at a State Championship for the Hawks.
“No doubt we are winning,” said Jaxon Langford, senior on the team,”I don’t think there’s a chance we don’t win a State Championship here so, we’ll see.”
With Alta heading into their first playoff game, the anticipation has been building up to this moment and it is finally here. The Hawks clearly have the talent, determination and grit to pull this off. Alta just needs to settle in, and take things one step at a time. If they do that, the Hawks very well may be Championship bound.
The game vs Viewmont will tip-off at Home on Friday, February 21st at 7:00 p.m. Come support your HAWKS!
