New Phone Law
Have you heard of the new phone laws this year? The phone rules are different for every school, but here at Alta phones just need to be put away during class time unless a teacher says it’s ok.
Yondr Pouches
The Yondr pouches have become very popular in the past few years. They are designed to keep your phones locked away, so they can’t be used. Some schools only lock it away for that class, but other schools take phones for the whole day. Students can’t even get their phone out during free time such as lunch. Many students with Yondr pouches don’t like them and try to find ways to break them and get rid of them. Many students & parents are getting mad that schools are spending so much money on these pouches instead of learning opportunities for students. Roughly Yondr pouches are $30 a piece, so for a school with 1,000 kids that’s $30,000 just to spend on pouches to keep students off their phones. While this may work to keep students on their phone, is it really worth spending all the money that could be spent on learning resources.
Many believe that phones can be used for good at school. Phones can be used for educational purposes such as apps that can help you at school, and communication, etc. So what do you think about the new phone law?
Granger High School
Granger high school is one of the many schools that has enforced the new phone laws as well as using the Yondr pouches. According to a website about Granger High School, the former principal said he is thrilled with the outcomes he has been seeing after the new phone rules. Since kids are not allowed their phone they say that there has been a “significant bump in the socialization overall”. There was also a noticeable change in the amount of student attendance. He does say that kids still find ways to get their phone out of the pouches, but the pouches have made a big difference overall for their school.
