This year water games with Alta High School were expected to start on September 13. With some unexpected events, water games this year have been postponed. Is this fair? Is it right? That is up for you to decide. Here are the facts. This September has been a difficult month with many negative major events involving schools and violence. Schools, especially in Utah, have been taking caution. Last year Sandy and Draper city police were investigating Alta high school’s water games. With houses being broken into and students being pulled over at gunpoint the rule book clearly had to be changed. No more breaking into houses or playing at school events, even the water gun types had to change. The rest of the competition went smoothly and a winner was decided. This year however violence is at a high in the United States. With the shooting of Charlie Kirk and the incident of Weber County, Utah is taking precaution. Water games were said to start up sometime in November because of these events. But the question still remains: how do we keep water games fun and safe at the same time? Personally I think the general collection of high school students playing a school wide game can get disorderly. But I also don’t think that kids at our school are capable of breaking the rules to a dangerous extent a second time. After the new rules are set in place and time is given for Utah to settle down, I think that water games this year will be a success. But this article is for the reader to decide if water games this year are a good idea or not? Can water turn out to be too dangerous of a weapon?
