Eagerly Waiting
As winter approaches, snow starts to fall. It has been a long wait for it to start but many students here at Alta are patiently waiting for the ski/snowboarding season. Resorts are starting to open such as Alta, Brian Head, Park City, Brighton, Snowbasin, Snowbird, and Deer Valley. If you’d like to start skiing, or already do, I’d recommend all of these because they are lots of fun!
How Much Snow Have We Gotten So Far?
We have gotten a decent base for snow so far with the recent storms. At Alta Ski Resort, we have gotten 19” of snow and at Brighton and Solitude, we have gotten 17”. At Snowbird we have a base of 20”.
When Do They Open?
Early November: Brian Head
Mid-Late November: Alta, Park City, and Solitude
Late November/Early December: Snowbird, Snowbasin, Deer Valley, Sundance
Mid-December: Brighton, Powder Mountain, Nordic Valley, Eagle Point
Fun Facts:
- Some of Utah’s resorts saw their longest ski season in 2022-2023.
- Deer Valley is expanding its size for the Deer Valley village and the Hotel.
- The origin for the word Ski comes from the Norwegian word “skíð” which means a split piece of wood.
- It is the fastest non-motorized sport on land.
