The 2025-2026 winter season hasn’t finished, however it’s quite obvious that this year has been rough when it comes to snow. But people understand that this has been a strange winter. Some people are saying that they are glad that it didn’t snow that much. Carrie Stewart said that she likes it because she likes a milder climate. Sally Humphreys said that she’s not sad that she’s not shoveling. But they both agree that Utah’s low snow pack is definitely worrying.
According to Jordan Clayton -the supervisor of the Utah Snow Survey- he says “We’re running out of time to get the snow packs that we need, We have about 40 or so days until our typical snow pack peak.” But there is still time to make up for lost ground. Even though Clayton believes that there is a 10% chance of reaching “normal” by the end of the season, which is not a great number.
Laura Haskell of Utah’s drought coordinator says that it is expected that there will be water restrictions outdoors for a lot of places. It is unknown what the next few weeks will bring for us, but if Haskell had to guess, she doesn’t see state reservoirs filling up much from where they are now.
