Recent Utah County Ballroom Competition Keeps Dancers on Their Toes

Dancers make semi-final round in last week's dance competition in Utah County.

Two couples danced their way to the semi-final round in recent Utah County Dance competition; Ryan Wilky and Kate Thayne in the Swing dance, and Ryan Wilky with Saskia Paepke-Chile in the Samba. Their success at the competition boosted team morale.

Alta Ballroom has been working hard against unexpected performances,- taking any chance they get to dance- school closures and dancer quarantines. Mrs. Diana Hunt, Ballroom Advisor, feels that through it all, the officers have remained vigilant about including everyone they can, even with the limited number of concerts and dancers allowed at performances due to Covid-19 restrictions.

With upcoming competitions and concerts so close, the dancers are following Coach Hunt’s lead in early morning rehearsals and exhausting practices. Dancers feel that rehearsing with masks on is difficult and annoying.

It’s been challenging, according to Hunt, to “keep team members in rehearsals because of quarantines.” Even though Covid-19 has created such unique challenges and obstacles, the Alta ballroom team is growing closer.

Isaac Taylor even joked that “we all suffer together, it’s a special bond.”
