Brinlee Mcrae Joins the 1000 Point Club As Girls Basketball Season Comes to a Close
Alta’s girl basketball team has had a very challenging season so far with only a 0.14 percent win rate. Despite a difficult season, the dark cloud has a significant silver lining.
Star senior player Brinlee Mcrae has been playing basketball for nine years, doing Junior Jazz for a couple of years before she moved onto AAU teams.
Brinlee tried out for Alta girls basketball since she had been playing basketball for so many years. As a transfer from Hillcrest, she sadly had to sit out of varsity the first year she tried out due to eligibility rules.
Girls basketball Coach Gustafson, mentions how great an asset Brinlee is to the team by stating, “Brinlee can create for herself and her team. She sees the floor and is able to direct our team to find opportunities to score. Despite difficulties, her presence on the court gives our team a sense of calm and control.”
On average she gets 18.6 points per game, which is the most out of all of the players. She has, on average, 2.4 assists per game and also has the most steals per game: 3.4 steals. Brinlee plans on going to a junior college in Arizona, and after she then hopes to transfer to a D1 University and continue to play basketball in her college years.
She is also the 5th Alta girls Basketball player to reach 1,000 points in her varsity career. She was ecstatic about it saying “I’m super hyped about the 1000 point club! I have been dreaming of it since Freshman year and I was scared I wasn’t going to make it after transferring and having to sit out for a year.”
Even though Alta’s girl’s basketball team is having a rough season they are enjoying it. Brinlee mentioned, “This year the focus has aimed towards us having more fun. It’s been super fun playing my last season with my best friends.” The girls are enjoying this season and are having fun, and that’s what matters most to them.
