Author Neal Shusterman to Make Book Stop at Alta this Year

Best selling author Neal Shusterman will make a stop at Alta in November as part of a book tour to promote his most recent book, Gleanings.

For Media Center Coordinator Amanda Scott, the school Book Club is an amazing way for students to explore literature and have a social experience along the way.

Scott is especially excited for the book club this year because best selling author Neal Shusterman will make a stop at Alta in November as part of a  book tour to promote his most recent book Gleanings.

Over 100 students signed up to be part of book club and this months book choice is Shusterman’s book Scythe.

Every month, book club members meet to talk about a book that was chosen the previous month. While they discuss, they eat snacks and sometimes meet with authors of the chosen book. Over eighty students voted for the genre this month, and fantasy won.

Scott is excited to see kids learning, reading, and making friends. “The book club is by far the best club at Alta,” she said.  “The best part of book club is seeing all the students make friends and getting to read books they enjoy.”

Shusterman is arguably the most popular author of juvenile fiction. Shusterman is the author of over 30 young adult novels. “It’s amazing he is coming to our school,” Scott said. “We hope to have an assembly where he can speak to students.”

Kassie Holt is a member of this year’s Book Club. She loves the connections with others and getting a new book along the way. “It’s fun and I love it,” she said.

All members who submitted their club applications received a copy of the book.

When asked what she would say to students that aren’t sure if they want to join or not, Mrs. Scott said, “Please, please join! We would love to see you all here.”

Students needing more information can contact Mrs. Scott in the media center or by email: Scott at [email protected].
