Percy Jackson and the Olympians made its debut December 19th on Disney+. This show is adapted from Rick Riordan’s beloved book series. Hopefully we get all five seasons, one for each book, but that depends on how well it does. The first season will be eight episodes total. Each episode comes out at 7pm on Tuesday nights. This show is definitely a must see if you’re a fan of the Percy Jackson books or Greek myths. Even if you’re not, it is a great show with an engaging story and characters to root for.
“Absolutely watch it, one hundred percent… I would recommend reading the chapters after watching the episodes,” says Megan Carlson, a student at Alta who has read the books and been watching the show.
The titles for the episodes are chapter titles from the book, which is a fun detail you get when you’ve read it. Unlike some book adaptations, this one does not have so many references that it doesn’t make sense unless you’ve read it, which makes it great for the newcomer as well.
“The actor for Percy is just fabulous and the casting really overall, they embody the characters,” Megan said. “It keeps the heart of the book.”
The casting for Percy Jackson is wonderful, so far they have represented the characters well and brought them to life. Unlike the 2010 Percy Jackson movie, the actors in this TV show are near the age the characters are in the book, which definitely helps. This show has stayed close to the book while not doing it scene for scene.
