Students Feel Safe from Covid while Skiing and Snowboarding

With the ski and snowboard season in full swing, and Utah’s Covid-19 cases rising, how do Alta’s students feel about the safety of their favorite snow sports?

Most of the resorts are already open, meaning there is a lot of rush to get up the canyons this season. However, that also means that people will be coming in contact more with others, but is it really contact? Is everyone staying safe while having fun on the slopes?

There is only one way to find out what the school’s students think about skiing and snowboarding this year, and that’s by interviewing some that have been. Kenzie Stokes, a Senior here at Alta, when asked about how she felt of the safety at Brighton so far this season, said, “It’s very safe in my opinion. Everyone is always spread at least 6 ft apart and if they aren’t, they are usually wearing a mask. Very great work.”

After spending most of the winter break snowboarding, did their opinions change? Kylee Middaugh, another Senior at Alta,  said, “I think if they [Brighton] keep it up they will be good!” That has been true, and so far, no one has gotten Corona from skiing or snowboarding.

Overall, when looking for a fun and safe activity to do during these crazy times, head up the mountain to the snow! It’s a great way to stay active, be out and about, and spend time with friends and family
