Students Can’t Wait To Hit The Slopes

Alta Is Hyped As Ski Season Is Coming

Ski season is right around the corner and Alta students are hyped. Our school is closest to some of the best resorts and snow in the world and the community is buzzing with excitement.

With the first snow coming earlier this week the resorts reported 34 inches of snow. The nearly two feet of snow is a very promising sight after a subpar snowpack last winter.

Preston Ludlow says, “I am so excited to get out there and start shredding. The second the resorts open you will catch me up on the hill.”

He goes on, “Hopefully we get some more snow than the past couple years. It should be a good year.”

After the snowfall Brighton resort’s Bone Zone, which is a preseason ski park which many skiers and boarders go for some skiing before the resorts open, opened this weekend.

Isabelle Smith went to the Bone Zone, “It was really fun and I plan on going again soon.”

While the Bone Zone is free for now, Alta Ski Resort pass is $1,099 for a high school student. While those who bought their pass before labor day saved a couple hundred dollars it is still very expensive.

Lincoln Eberhardt says, “It is my senior year, I worked all summer as a lifeguard to save up just to buy my pass. I love skiing and can’t wait to go.”

He goes on to say, “It doesn’t matter how good you are, it is just fun to go up and hangout with your buddies. Some days we bring the grill up and make burgers and hot dogs in between runs.”

Skiing is a huge part of Utah culture. Utahns claim to have “The best snow on Earth” and many people learn to ski at a young age. You can see this here at Alta High as we have some very talented skiers.

The Alta Student section showed their support for the football team on Friday and the theme was a “ski out”. Students made the trip all the way to Springville Highschool dressed in coats, snow pants, and goggles to watch Alta get a huge win to advance in the playoffs.

Hadley Tilman is pumped to get back out there, “Skiing is my favorite thing to do. I went up 26 times last season and it was so fun. My goal is to hit 35 days of skiing this year.”
