Paper darts- made from sticky notes being folded into pointed tips, then thrown into the ceiling- have made a breakthrough this year. These darts can be seen in hallways, classrooms, and even bathrooms. When they fall, they leave trails on the floors of the school. Chances are, you have seen one, though in case you haven’t this article will include multiple photos of these darts in their unnatural habitats.
These paper darts- made from sticky notes and sometimes containing metal points or centers- have gained in popularity in the year 2025, while they were around before, certain media platforms have significantly increased their popularity. Tiktok especially has helped to spread the fad of throwing paper up into school ceilings, but are these paper darts actually safe?
To answer this question, Hawkeye newspaper members went around the school and asked several teachers and students what their thoughts were on the paper darts. Each of the following responses were from real accounts, some chose to stay anonymous, while others didn’t mind being known.
Teachers:
Leslie Douglas- Thinks they can be a distraction, she’s also nervous about the sharp points.
Anonymous source- It started with one student then other students saw it and also started doing it too.
Students:
Austin Madsen- “I don’t mind them,” but he doesn’t make them himself.
London Williams- Problematic at times, could be dangerous, but as long as it’s not destroying the school.
Anonymous source- Didn’t know it was a thing, but thinks it’s dangerous if they have staples or paper clips.
As seen by the general response of those interviewed, these darts are seen as mild disturbances. While they are fun to make and throw up into the ceiling, too many can make an annoyance. And they can be dangerous if a student misses the ceiling and it falls (with the mental tip) onto someone else or themselves.
If you are one of the people that makes these darts and actively uses them, please do not make them with staples, lead, or paper clips as these can harm the people they fall onto -even if just a little bit, it will still hurt. Only make the darts out of paper, and before throwing them you should find a teacher’s classroom that allows paper darts in their ceiling.
Please be careful and respect your teachers and fellow students.
