Back in October, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to María Corina Machado. Her daughter accepted the prize during December in Oslo because Machado was in hiding. She won it because she was trying her best to promote democratic rights down in Venezuela. The tradition of the Nobel Peace Prize started in 1901, 5 years after Alfred Nobel passed away. It is awarded for creating peace, fraternity, and disarmament. The award has brought international attention to the situation in Venezuela and challenges that opposing figures face. The Nobel Committee expressed that the prize was given to recognize efforts that reinforce democratic processes and civil rights. The Nobel Peace Prize acknowledges individuals whose actions influence peace, cooperation, and human rights worldwide.
