Drill Showcase 2025-2026

The Alta “Hawkettes” had their showcase earlier this month on Tuesday, February 10th. They performed all of their competition routines which include pom, military, dance, and show as well as their EPIC camp routines. EPIC is a Utah-based program for dance and drill teams where they go to a 2 day camp and learn routines for occasions such as performances or half times. Back in August of last year, the EPIC program was able to have many different drill teams from across the state perform at a RSL halftime including the Hawkettes, which was an amazing experience for all drill teams who participated.

The first comp routine that was performed was military. Military is a style of dance that uses sharp and intricate arm movements, kicklines, counter-balances (partner tricks that require balance and strength), and splits. Alta’s military captain this year is Alyssa Simons.

Following military was dance routine. Dance routine is a comp dance style that requires a variety of leaps, jumps, a turn section, and various tricks. The dance routine song chosen this year was “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap.

The Hawkettes then performed their show routine. Show routine a category of dance in the drill world where the team portrays/plays a character or theme often from pieces of media like movies or TV. This year Alta portrayed Venom, the infamous reptile villain from the Spiderman franchise.

To finish off the showcase, there was a surprise dance performed by drill dads, brothers, and grandparents. The seniors taught them a short combination of all the comp routines and showed the crowd their “skills”. They even recreated the ending Venom pose! It was a hilarious way to end the night.
